Most of the prayers offered to God are no better than George Bailey’s Prayer in “It’s a Wonderful Life.”;
“God, I’m not a praying man, but…,”
or the many prayers which are uttered in hospital chapels on a daily bases;
“If you could just heal Uncle Bob…,”
or the common prayer among mothers and wives,
“Lord if you would just save him…”
These prayers do not make it to the throne room of God. The truth is that most prayers of those who are strong church members do not make it to God either, they never even leave the room they are in. Either we are praying for guidance we will not take, or help we will deny, or deliverance we do not want. Praying for the lost is the largest waste of time in the life of a Christian.
Can a prayer for your lost “Aunt Betty” make God try harder?
Can it make God do something more than He has already done for her?
Will a prayer make God want someone saved more than He already does?
Is God’s love for another dependant on your active prayer life?
No! What a small God He would be indeed if these answers were “yes.”
If you are aligned with predestination, then will Prayer change who is and who is not elect? No.
If you are aligned with free-will, will your prayers overcome someones free will to not chose salvation? No, each individuals free-will supersedes your prayers.
Again, I say prayer is largely misunderstood, and misused. I am not questioning the power or relevance of Prayer, the Bible is clear on that. We just constantly misuse our most powerful tool God has given us, Prayer.
